SF.MIX.13 – Kelvin T

Our team has always watched the underground Chinese music scene with particular attention covering many of its most promising artists and also getting to host some of them on our mix series. One of the names that has drawn most attention between our editors and in the music scene in general has definitelly been Kelvin T. We had the chance to talk about his music on several other occasions and especially for the release of his stunning last record on our best of November article last year (go have a listen to it if you haven’t already) and it’s a huge honour to host him on our mix series with an extremely unique mix.

This is what he had to say about it:

For Kelvin T’s Soul Feeder mix, I present you a 30 minute version of Dropbar.

Dropbar is actually an experiment or a challenge; you get one melodic loop and one percussive loop, how will you develop these loops into a song? How will you extend the song into something else? When you hear the normal version, what other sounds do you hear?

This is an idea that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, so after about a year of releasing this song, I’ve decided to extend the song without thinking too much about what outcome I wanted, but enjoying the process of having ideas constantly popping up every minute.

Oh, and I’m dropping a new album soon.
