Cryptolect – Punished [Experimental] Song Review

Cryptolect is a New York producer and singer based in New York. Last year his track “Punished” made his debut in the New York UNO label’s Giveitaway series, which gave fame to artists like Arca and Chino Amobi. The song is part of The Marrow In My Bones” EP, an amazing release that you can’t miss!

Punished is an incredibly vivid electro punk sounding moan that will get you in a harrowing wilderness explosion. Starting with its sinister synth glares the mood is immediately clear, there is no sunlight coming through the track and the only source of light are its (imaginary) artificial neon lamps through a rough and gloomy night. Melodically the song is extremely powerful and evocative but the best part is undoubtedly played by the rhythmic section able to drive the mood of the track powerfully and seductively. With extremely violent sections spaced out by more laid back moments, the entire song is like a roller coaster ride with its amazing voice samples being its most tangible manifestation.

Cryptolect in a statement wrote “This song is about feeling melted down, mistreated and forlorn… being confused about existence and feeling the individual elements of life difficult to distinguish or find purpose… but to be solidified again one day… by even the smallest special moment… a bit misshapen, but beautiful still.”
